RAPID BUG – COURSE

Cost: $149 per person

• Departure 1:30 PM (selected Sundays, see below))
• Half day riverbug course
• 4 hours (2.5 hours on the water)
• Grade 2-3 (moderate difficulty)
• Prior whitewater experience necessary

On our Rapid Bug course we'll guide you through the steps towards becoming self reliant riverbugging on Grade 2-3 whitewater. Starting further upstream from our Bug Sunday section we take in some of the lower gorge's more challenging papids. At the put in pool we'll practice the basics of paddling, safety and teamwork, before heading down stream through the easier “warm-up“ rapids to prepare for the challenges ahead. You'll learn how read whitewater, stop in eddies, surfing and how to navigate through rocks and drops. We'll even teach you a few fun tricks along the way.

Be prepared to get wet, and expect to walk over uneven ground and rocks.The river level is controlled by water release from the Lake McLaren dam on 26 Sundays from Spring – Autumn. Our group size is limited to 5 participants per guide, so be sure to book early to reserve your place.

Meeting place for the tour is 1443 State Highway 29, Tauriko, Lower Kaimai 3171.

• Previous whitewater experience is necessary. 
• All equipment and safety personnel provided. 
• Bring your swimwear, towel & sun protection. 
• Allow approximately 4 hours in total.
