RANGITĀIKI RIVERBUG ADVENTURE

RANGITĀIKI RIVERBUG ADVENTURE

Cost: $70 per person

  • Half day tour
  • 4 hours total( aprox. 2 hours on the river)
  • Grade 2 (easy, fun whitewater)
  • Suitable for ages 10+
  • First-timer friendly

Rising in the Kaiangaroa and Uruwera forests, the Rangitāiki is the Bay of Plenty's longest river, with special significance to local Māori. Fun bouncy waves, swirling currents and deep pools make for both an exciting and relaxing ride through this spectacular gorge that's a favourite with beginner paddlers..

Our adventure begins with meeting your group at the Lake Aniwhenua camping area which provides toilets and changing facilities. After changing into riverbugging gear there's a safety briefing, then we put on the river below Aniwhenua Falls for some calm water practice before heading into the gorge. After approximately 2 hours on the water we arrive at the take out point where transport and dry clothes await.

The riverbug tour can also be combined with other activities and attractions such as the thermal baths in Kawarau (free entry), visiting Tarawera Falls or a cultural tour with local Māori. Let us know your wishes and we're are happy to assist you with options of things to do while in the area.
